Earlier this month, we announced the next era of the FIRST® LEGO® League journey, a reimaged experience designed to make it easier for educators to inspire and for students everywhere to discover their potential through STEM.
Beginning this August, FIRST LEGO League will offer two program experiences — Founders Edition and Future Edition — giving teams flexible pathways to participate in a way that works best for them as the program evolves. Both editions are rooted in the same Core Values and learning goals, inspiring confidence, creativity, and problem-solving through playful, team-based challenges. For the upcoming season, teams can continue planning and participating as they always have through Founders Edition, with ongoing support from Program Delivery Partners (PDPs) and FIRST®.
To give our community a closer look at what’s ahead, we’ll be livestreaming a demo of the new FIRST LEGO League experience during FIRST® Championship. Over the coming months, we’ll continue to share guidance, resources, and answers to frequently asked questions to help teams confidently plan, whether they choose to remain with Founders Edition or begin exploring Future Edition during the 2026-2027 season.
We’re sharing an updated set of answers to questions to help clarify what this evolution means for teams today, what’s coming next, and how support will continue throughout the transition. For the complete and most current set of FAQs, including team size, programming, the Project, and more, please visit the FIRST Help Center.
Many details for the 2026-2027 season will also be released at Kickoff on August 4, 2026, per the regular season launch. This includes information around rules, the rubric and judging materials, and other specifics about the game that teams need to know.
