Behind the Design: FIRST K-8 Program Experience

FIRST^® teams know this better than most: Innovation isn’t just about the solution you create; it’s about what you discover and learn along the way.

On a FIRST robotics team, innovation is the journey from challenge to solution. It happens through brainstorming, prototyping, testing, iterating, and learning as teams work toward showcasing their solution. Teams document that journey in Engineering Notebooks, using everything from paper binders and documents to videos and GitHub updates. 

As FIRST staff works on our next generation of K-8 programs to launch with our 2027-2028 season next spring, we want to offer you a peek inside our notebook. “Behind the Design” will document some of the people, stories, and innovations behind this new program development.
