Kickoff is just a few weeks away and we’re counting down the days until we unveil REEFSCAPESM presented by Haas as well as this year’s KitBot. With the help of our friends at SendCutSend, we wanted to share a little teaser of some components of the KitBot.

 

We previously shared some information on the KitBot but to help ensure that teams have the materials on hand to make the KitBot, we wanted to release a shopping list of some items to buy to help teams prepare before Kickoff.

The good news is that we were able to add even more items to the Black Tote this season, which means that teams receiving the Black Tote have fewer items to buy this year! Huge shoutout to these suppliers who helped us ensure most of the components needed for the KitBot were in the Black Tote:

To start, we’re going to share the materials that all teams planning to build the KitBot will need to source regardless of if they opted out of some of the Kickoff Items.

 

Table 1: Raw Materials

All parts are designed so that Pre-Drilled Tubing such as WCP-0924, WCP-1023, am-5177, REV-21-2160 can be easily used if preferred.
4 ft. x 4 ft. Polycarbonate Sheet 0.118 in. thickness (~1200 mm x 1200 mm, 3 mm thickness) 1 It is okay to use 0.125 in. instead if preferred.

Make sure to use polycarbonate and not acrylic. Acrylic of this thickness is likely to shatter either when machined or when subjected to the shock of robot operation.

Other materials (0.125 in. aluminum, 0.25 in. plywood, etc.) may be used but have not been tested and bolt and spacer lengths may be affected if modifying material thickness.

Also available from vendors in smaller sizes such as: WCP-0294 (3 sheets needed)
2 ft. x 2 ft. Sheet of ¾ in. Plywood (600 mm x 600 mm, 19mm thickness) 1 Used for electronics board. May also need additional plywood for Bumper Backing, see below for details.

Other materials may be used but have not been tested and bolt lengths may be affected if modifying material thickness.
(Optional) – ¾ in. Schedule 40 PVC Pipe (20mm DIN PVC pipe) 2 ft. (~600mm) This material is to make spacers which can also be purchased or can be 3D Printed.

 

Table 2 shows the parts needed for the KitBot that must be sourced by the team. Some items can be 3D printed or created from raw material rather than sourced directly.

We’re also including some step-by-step instructions on how to build bumpers specifically for the KitBot this year. Teams may choose to use other materials if preferred, but Table 3 lists the items needed to build the bumpers as we describe:

Teams may optionally choose to use other padding if preferred as noted in the Game Manual.
